Glasses to Contacts?

Contemplating one's own genetic matter
It's about time for me to update my eye prescription. I've scheduled an appointment for a couple of weeks from now.

Mostly, I'm considering making the switch to contacts. I've had glasses since third grade and resisted getting contacts mostly due to the cost in the past (under dad's insurance) but partly because I like the idea of "looking smart."

Cost is still a heavy factor, but they cost about the same as glasses nowadays, seems like. My eyesight has still been gradually failing, though, and I'm under the impression that contacts will slow that down more than glasses would. This would make it worth the switch in my mind. But I think I'd feel hella lazy about putting contacts on/taking contacts off, using solutions, etc. Plus I don't think I'd look so smart! I want to look like a sexy librarian! :P

Thoughts? Comments on your experience on making the switch from glasses to contacts?
