Anti-virus/spyware?

  • Nov. 7th, 2006 at 8:11 PM
OH GOD THE DRUDGERY
Does anyone know of a good free anti-virus/anti-spyware program? I'm using Grisoft's AVG right now, but they'll be discontinuing support for the free version by 2007, so I'm shopping now. Also, they don't cover spyware, so I need something more comprehensive.

However, I don't mind paying for such a program if it's worth the value. If you have one of these paid programs and are really happy with it, please refer me to one in the comments. Thanks!

Funny Jokes

Glee!
One thing that every person should know how to do is tell at least one good joke.

Tell me a joke.  Your favorite joke.  Clean, dirty, racist, sexist, politically-correct, etc.  I wanna hear them all.

I'll tell a joke on my next post.  I gotta run to work now.  :P

HTML Gurus: Please Comment!

OH GOD THE DRUDGERY
I'm working on a newsletter for my company.  A recipient of these newsletters has complained that there are serious formatting issues that need to be fixed in the emails.  I suspect it's a browser issue as the recipient in question is using a Mac mail client, and I have been viewing these emails though IE, Mozilla, and Outlook (which is based on IE, isn't it?).

How can I clean up the HTML so that it's viewed properly for Mac users and other users?

Friends Photo Gallery

I <3 boxers!
Now that I've got a permanent account, I want to follow [info]jesus_h_biscuit's idea and create a photo gallery of as many LJ friends as I can.  I already have a tiny LJ photo gallery up with 17 pictures of family and friends so far.

Please send me a photo of you that you wouldn't mind having me post in the new gallery.  Send them to ilubmoney@gmail.com.  If not... send me music.  :P

I <3 BROADBAND

Glee!
Since I installed DSL at my house this morning, I've downloaded tons of songs I've been meaning to FOREVER (via Limewire, in case someone wants to know).  Went to a couple of rock station websites for ideas on what to listen to, and got some great tracks.

I love NIN's "The Hand That Feeds"!  And Jack Johnson!  And Green Day!

Does anyone have any recommendations?  (Or have Dido's "White Flag"?  I keep getting "corrupted" versions.)

Religious Reading Material

Hello, friends.  I am searching for reading material that's related to religion but doesn't necessarily adhere strictly to dogma.  Works of fiction are highly encouraged (e.g. no wisecracks about the Bible, please... and I know this would apply to at least one of you on my friends list).  In particular, I'm looking for works related to ideas of God and Satan beyond the usual "Old Man with White Beard on a Cloud Throne" and "Horned Demon in Badass, Red Body Paint with a Pitchfork."

Movie titles are encouraged as well.  I've already seen Devil's Advocate, Dogma, The Devil and Daniel Webster, Bruce Almighty, Bedazzled, and possibly some others I can't think of right now.

Birthday Wish List 2005

It's that time again.  I know some of you have already requested this (or will be in the next few weeks), so I'll have it up now for those of you who want it.  Birthday is on May 8, 2005.  Yes, right on Mother's Day.

  • An out-of-town weekend trip to anywhere with my sweetie. (Pending - Las Vegas.  Set up a four-day weekend from work to make this happen.) (Cancelled the trip plans because I decided I wanted to save my money for a much bigger trip further down the road.)

  • Two tickets to see a Vegas Cirque du Soleil show that weekend, or a hookup for discounted tickets. (See above.)

  • Paid LJ time. :) Have a permanent account now. :)

  • My first expensive haircut, and coloring the rest of my hair back to black.  (I have never paid more than $17 for a haircut, and that includes the tip, too.  So "expensive" for me would still be about $30-$50, which I know for some people is "cheap."  Yeah, whatever.)

  • New clothes, or a gift card/certificate to buy some.*  (I heart Old Navy, Gap, and stores with styles like that, but I haven't done much shopping around San Jose to know what other stores I might like.)

  • New shoes, or a gift card/certificate to buy some.*

  • A tape/CD and book that will teach me some Cantonese.

  • A DVD burner for my Latitude D600.

  • A few hours' worth of pool time at Edgie's in Milpitas.  (My coworker and I might make it a regular thing to go there after work on Fridays.)

  • Added 4/11/05: I love David Mack's Kabuki Comics. I have the first three from "The Alchemy" series, but I've JUST started on his stuff and I love it. That's K-U-B-U-K-I. An excellent comic artist who uses a variety of materials beyond the inks and paper.

  • Added 4/13/05: I'd like one of Sighwhatever.com's "I <3" shirts. I'm not exactly sure what size shirt I'd like yet, but I think a medium or small would be best. Other shirts with clever messages are also welcome.

  • Added 4/15/05: I was about to add "Air courier membership" to my list, but I'm no longer sure if I will have enough times in the year to take trips abroad, even if they're at great prices. But keep this in mind anyway. I think travel would be good for me.

  • Added 4/22/05: Cards are always lovely. Cards, postcards, or photos, just to wish me happy birthday. Address will be emailed upon request, but only if I feel comfortable giving you my address.

  • A really good air purifier. It's gonna be a rough few months in San Jo.

I'll update this as things come up.

On an unrelated note, check out this interesting link from [info]rinku and [info]theferrett's LJs.  It's an example of digital retouching.  Ferrett notes that even the original, unedited woman is prettier than the average woman, but it's only when comparing her to the retouched version that makes us go, "Eww."

It's true, you guys.  I may not take all your advice (especially since my friends are fairly diverse in opinions), but I certainly appreciate the input.

One thing I miss is the poll option for paid accounts.  I find that most of you only give me your input through my polls because it's too much trouble to leave a comment.  :[

Please comment, even if the comment has only the word "long" or "short."  I do care.

I wanted to see how I would look with really short hair, so I used the "I <3 NY" beanie he got me from his NY trip to see how I might look.

I don't like this insomnia.  I wanna do something fun with it, so let's try something else for a change.  ("You mean something besides the lack of public entries?"  "Yes.")

[info]pseudonymjones did this six or seven months ago, and of course, it's from EmotionEric.  It's the picture meme that never caught on because it's too much trouble... but too much fun!

And, of course, I'm armed with a camera and a webcam.  >:D

REQUEST AN EMOTION AND I'LL TRY TO PORTRAY IT FOR YOU UNDER THE COMMENTS.
