How do they know...?
Stewie reads to Teddy

I was reading this article on MSNBC this morning, and I came across this paragraph:

Another good source [of antioxidants] is dark chocolate. In fact, a study of 163 women in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found that those who consumed at least one cube of chocolate daily reported significantly greater desire and better overall sexual function than the individuals who abstained. The reasoning: High-flavonoid chocolate consumption has been linked to improved circulation. More chocolate equals better sex? You don’t have to tell me twice.

What?  How do they know it's from the antioxidants and not because these women's partners are thoughtful enough to give them yummy chocolate?  I mean, Albert giving me brownies makes me happy and excited, and that gets my heart beating even before I touch the brownies.

Onyx, the sex version of Monopoly
Sex <3
[info]ilubmoney
I considered putting this in only the sex filter(s), but this was too good to keep filtered!

If you're looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy Valentine's this year with a partner (or partners), consider downloading and installing Onyx. It's been described as a "sex-themed" Monopoly, and it has lot of customizable options that range from props available to what you're willing or not willing to do, as mild or spicy as you want it. There's an unregistered version, but you may want to consider purchasing/registering the game if you want the full range of kink available.

I downloaded the free version myself to see what it was like. And I must say, it looks like a lot of fun! Good for 2-6 players. The registered version costs $35, but the author ([info]tacit) just made a $6 coupon available for the month of February. Coupon code is 021408.

I decided to make a visit out to Syracuse this weekend, so I may post a review of this game in a future filtered post (in which you are also free to comment about your own experiences with it if you use it this weekend, too!).

Happy V-Day lovin'! ;)

Edit: I was running the game as I was writing this entry, a sample 2-player game between "Tom" and "Anna." This is the first paragraph of the "card" that came up when I landed on the "Random Encounter" space:

"Anna, this time it's your turn to play policeman. Tom seems to be behaving suspiciously to you; pin him against the wall and frisk him. You will find a suspicious bulge in his pants, which will necessitate removing the pants to verify that it is not a concealed weapon. Caution is always advisable; please be thorough!"

And another card that came up:
"Guess what, Anna? Since you were the first one undressed, you have the option of telling the other players how they are to undress! Direct them to undress themselves, singly or all at once, any way you choose."

Keep in mind that this is under the unregistered version.

Discovery Methods Linked to Attitudes About Sex?
Sex <3
[info]ilubmoney
A long time ago (about 2 years ago, actually), I asked people how they learned about sex as a kid. Answers were varied: sex ed classes in elementary school, walking in on someone watching porn, walking in on couples having sex, sexual molestation, having parents purchase a children's book/tape to explain.

Interestingly enough, none of the responses I received were about parents telling their children what it is. But I can't say that's really surprising either.

I'm curious as to how we learn about sex as children affects our attitudes or preferences about sex later in life (and when I say "preferences," I don't just mean orientation). And that's assuming that the way we learned about it affects our preferences--though there's reason to believe that it does, and I think it's more about how much it affects our preferences. I think this would be interesting to research, though I can't imagine that it hasn't already been done before. General questions I'd want to explore:

- What's the most common way of learning about sex as a child?
- Of those who learned about sex through their parents, what method did parents employ?
- General attitudes about sex that might be linked to how sex was learned: what's considered permissible, what's taboo, fantasies, fears, etc.

Since I've taken this semester off to travel and relax, I think this would be a good opportunity for me to explore this question independently. It'd be good to have a professional look over my research and guide me. It's related to my area of study (Marriage and Family Therapy), but for some reason, I'm not sure I'd be able to explore this question in depth in my grad program. But even the prospect of researching this topic on my own makes me excited, and I may be putting a poll up about it soon.

And now, for a different kind of poll!
Oopsie!

Just for my own amusement.
